Stars of Tokyo Olympics
On Saturday, August 7, Neeraj Chopra won India's first-ever Gold medal in Athletics in the Javelin Throw, while Bajrang Punia won Bronze in Wrestling in the men's freestyle 65kg, bringing India's Olympic campaign to a close. This edition was India's best in terms of medal count, with seven medals, including one Gold, two Silvers, and four Bronzes. India's previous greatest medal total was two silver and four bronze medals at the 2012 London Olympics.
Neeraj Chopra’s Gold in Athletics
On Saturday, August 7, the 23-year-old won India's first-ever gold medal in athletics after finishing first on the podium in the Javelin Throw. He was also only the country's second individual gold medalist at the Summer Olympics. After winning the 10m Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Abhinav Bindra became the country's first individual gold medalist. He is India's Golden Boy and his name will be etched in History Books with Golden Letters. Neeraj has thrown 87.58m.
Mirabai Chanu’s Silver in Weightlifting
Mirabai Chanu's Silver medal in weightlifting in the 49kg category was India's first medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and it was also the first Silver medal for an Indian in weightlifting. Karnam Malleswari had won bronze in the 69kg category in the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
P.V. Sindhu’s Bronze in Badminton
PV Sindhu became India's first woman to win two individual medals at the Olympic Games and to win medals in two consecutive editions by winning bronze in the women's singles event. She had won Silver at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She was also the first Indian woman to win the World Badminton Championship and two Olympic medals in both men's and women's competitions.
Third-place for the Men’s Hockey team
Field hockey is a sport with a long history and tradition in India. A sport in which the country has won 11 Olympic medals, including eight gold medals. Indian hockey players have won a medal for the first time in 41 years. They won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics after defeating Germany 5-4 in a nail-biting contest. India's last medal was a gold in Moscow in 1980.
Fourth-place for the Women’s Hockey team
The Indian Women's Hockey team made Olympic history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time. They defeated Australia 1-0, the world's second-ranked team, in the quarter-final to get to the final four. They did, however, lose in the semi-final to Argentina 2-1. They played admirably well in third position, but Great Britain took the lead in the fourth quarter and the Indians lost the match 4-3. India had finished 12th at the Rio Olympics, 2016.
Wrestling
Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya got Silver Medal after losing the Mens's 57kg Final against Zavur Uguev 7-4. He is the 2nd Indian wrestler after Sushil Kumar to win an Olympic silver. His medal also marks the Fourth back-to-back medal for India at the Wrestling.
Bajrang Punia won Bronze Medal in 65kg Category defeating Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0. He totally dominated the performance.
Deepak Punia lost his Bronze medal Match Against Myles Amine 4-2 in 86kg. Last 10 Seconds of the game were gamechanger of the match.
Lovlina Borgohain bronze in Boxing
After defeating Chen Nien Chin 4-1in the Semi Final, boxer Lovlina ensured India of a bronze. There is no third-place match in boxing. Bronze medals are given to both Semi Finalists. Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey defeated her 5-0. She is the third Indian boxer to earn an Olympic medal with her bronze.
Aditi Ashok’s fourth-place finish in Golf
On Saturday, August 7, Aditi Ashok came agonisingly close to winning a medal in the Women's Individual Stroke Play event. She came in fourth place in the competition. For the most part, the 23-year-old, who is ranked 200th in the world, was second. She did, however, miss out on a medal by one stroke on the last day. She has also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing 41st.
Semi-final in the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls event
Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, two Indian rowers, made history by becoming the first Indian double sculls pair to reach the Olympics semi-finals. They placed 11th in the event, which is the country's greatest ever performance at an Olympic Games. India's previous best performance at the event was an 18th-place result at the 2012 London Olympics.
India’s fencing debut at the Olympics
Bhavani Devi made history by being the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics. She competed in the Women's Sabre Individual event for the country. The Chennai-based fencer is also the first Indian to win the senior Commonwealth Fencing Championship gold medal. In the second round of the Tokyo Olympics, she was defeated by fourth-seeded Manon Brunet of France.
Hence, India progressed a lot in this Tokyo Olympics 2020 and outshine the name of our country by bossting their abilities.
